An open wound prevents a patient from returning to normal activities. It is always at risk for serious bacterial infections and should be closed quickly. The ideal wound closure requires local site, full thickness skin and sub-cutaneous tissue to withstand the stresses of daily living. In many instances a partial calcanectomy is Case Report 1
94 year old patient with an infected necrotic heel pressure ulcer at a nursing home. The patient was admitted to the hospital where the wound was debrided and a partial removal of the calcaneus bone was performed. Proxiderms were applied twice for two days and once for three days. After seven days of Proxiderm application the ulcer is sutured closed.

The peripheral vascular supply was marginal Figure 2 Appearance after surgical debridement of necrotic soft and bony tissue
Figure 3 Application of three different sized and shaped Proxiderms models D 460, PS 460 and D90 460. Proxiderms intermittently applied four times over a six week period due to inflammatory and infective episodes. Figure 4 Appearance of both heels two years later. The edema of the left lower extremity was unknown, but considered to be due to a combination of dependent posture and venous thrombosis. The heels remained healed for a further two years until the patient's demise.
Figure 1 A 35 year old diabetic male with exposed calcaneus and radiologically confirmed osteomyelitis. This patient was employed by Ringling Barnum Circus and the physician had 4 weeks to close the wound before the circus moved to another city. Figure 2 Three intermittent applications of Proxiderms over 27 days. Proxiderm models D 460 and D 90 460 were used. Figure 3 Patient discharged himself after 27 days with a superficial wound
Figure 1 A 79 year old patient with acute kidney failure and a heel pressure ulcer of one months duration. Figure 2 One application of Proxiderms for three days and three, two day applications of Proxiderms. Proxiderm model D460 were used. Ulcer was sutured closed in nine days. Figure 3 Appearance at 6 months. Case Report 5
